10 Tips for Selling in Business:

1. Create the WANT…if people WANT your product/service they will climb mountains for it.

2. Understand your market in order to solve their problem with your product – Do you know who you are selling too, and why?

3. Demo your product / service – get it out there for people to trial. Online presence its just not enough anymore.

4. Believe in your offering – and ENSURE your staff believe in it too or you are ultimately doomed to potter along or eventually fail.

5. Don’t offer too much information in creating the WANT… create the initial hype to peak interest using some key USP’s that match your marketing strategy.

6. Remember WHY you started the business / product line and tap into that emotion – IF you started simply because you saw an opportunity to make money, then you need to sit and define WHY you are now in that business besides the financial reward or your company vision will be very thin.

7. SELL key elements of your company strategy and company vision in your sales process and not just your actual product. Let customers and clients BUY into your vision. Why are you in business? Do you have a company vision or statement? Not sure what yours actually is?… This is not unusual, this is a great video to help you understand:

8. Encourage your staff to buy into the company strategy, and learn to live and breath it – They are ambassadors for your ‘brand’.

9. Create a positive CULTURE that supports the nature of product / service –  then mainline this through your entire company top to bottom.

10. If necessary – FAKE it…. Sometimes we have insecurities and doubts about our abilities, this is natural… but perception is everything, so learn to put on your game face and ACT confident. Amy Cuddy gives us some excellent insight into her experiences in this regard in this video below:

REMEMBER: Be genuine in your sales ethics… Underhanded and Cut Throat can win in the short term but in the long run you alienate customers and industry allies and you are left with a diminishing market not a growing market. The sales process is NOT over once the customer leaves… Customer service and customer experience is paramount to return customers and for positive word of mouth… this alone should be HUGE part of your sales strategy. We will be covering this area soon too.
